PAINT - COLOR REVISIONS - CLEAR COAT TRIAL - MIDNIGHT CANYON RED - CODE 2J M-5928 AND MIDNIGHT WINE - CODE 2W M-6013

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1984 LINCOLN, MARK, CONTINENTAL

The Wixom Assembly Plant has been authorized to run an extended production trial (approximately 500 vehicles) of a base coat/clear coat version of midnight canyon red code 2J (M-5928) and midnight wine code 2W M-6013. These colors are currently released as solid non-clear coat colors for Lincoln/Mark/Continental/ T-Bird/Cougar.

The purpose of this trial is to prove-out the production capability of 2J and 2W as base coat/clear coat colors in terms of improved gloss, improved polishability and greater mar resistance (similar to recent actions at Wixom for converting conventional black to base coat/clear coat black).

The trial vehicles will be individually identified for aftermarket paint service purposes by the assembly plant applying a "special paint" I.D. label directly above the certification label in the door opening (same as black base coat/clear coat units). After the trial, a decision will be made as to whether or not to continue these colors in base coat/clear coat. If so, arrangements will be made through normal channels to spec change the dealer orders to reflect a new paint code, and it would likely be handled as a 1984 running change.

The intent of this article is to inform you of the above trial for purposes of after-market paint service consideration.
