Shift Interlock Cable: Service and Repair

Selector Lever Cable

Removal

1. With the vehicle in PARK, position it on a hoist. Refer to Maintenance/Service and Repair.





2. Remove the left console access panel.





3. Disconnect the shift cable from the transmission selector lever.





4. Disconnect the shift cable from the transmission selector lever bracket.





5. Push the rubber grommet through the bulkhead.





6. Remove the shift cable from the vehicle.
1. Disconnect the shift cable from the manual control lever.
2. Disconnect the shift cable from the shift cable bracket.
3. Remove the shift cable from the vehicle.





7. Remove the 2 bolts and the shift cable bracket.

Installation





1. Install new shift cable retainers on both ends of the shift cable.
2. Position the shift cable through the opening of the bulkhead. Do not seat the rubber grommet in the bulkhead at this time.





3. Connect the shift cable to the transmission selector lever bracket.





4. Connect the shift cable to the transmission selector lever.





5. Seat the rubber grommet in the bulkhead.





6. Install the left console access panel.
7. Rotate the gearshift lever rearward until it bottoms out in 1st gear, then rotate it forward 3 detents to the (D) position.





8. Position the shift cable bracket on the transmission and install the 2 bolts.
^ Tighten to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).





9. Rotate the manual lever forward until travel stops, then rotate the manual lever rearward 3 detents to the (D) position.





10. Connect the shift cable to the shift cable bracket.





11. Connect the shift cable to the manual lever.
1. Position the shift cable on the manual lever.
2. Push the shift cable adjustment lock downward to the lock position.
12. Verify the engine will start in PARK and NEUTRAL and the reversing lamps illuminate in REVERSE. If not, readjust the shift cable. Refer to Cable Adjustment - Shift Indicator. Service and Repair
