Removal
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
3. Drain the engine oil.
4. Remove the valve covers.
5. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
6. Remove the accessory drive belt idler pulley mounting bolts and the idler pulleys.
7. Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner mounting bolts and the tensioner.
8. Remove the power steering reservoir bracket bolts and the bracket.
9. Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector.
10. Remove the CMP sensor mounting bolt and the sensor.
11. Remove and discard the oil filter.
12. Remove the power steering hose bracket mounting nut and the bracket.
13. Remove the power steering pump mounting bolts and position the power steering pump aside.
14. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
15. Disconnect the battery wiring harness retainer.
16. Remove the A/C compressor mounting nuts.
17. Remove the A/C compressor mounting studs and position the A/C compressor aside.
18. Remove the transmission tube clip mounting nut and the tube clip.
19. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.
20. Remove the CKP sensor mounting bolt and the sensor.
21. Using the special tool to keep the pulley from turning, remove the coolant pump pulley bolts.
22. Using the special tool, remove the crankshaft seal.
23. Remove the 4 oil pan-to-engine front cover bolts.
24. Remove the fasteners and the engine front cover.
25. CAUTION: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools can cause scratches and gouges which can create leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of old sealant.
Remove and discard the gaskets, clean and inspect the sealing surfaces.
Installation
1. NOTE: If the engine front cover is not secured within 4 minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned with metal surface cleaner. Allow to dry until there is no sign of wetness, or 4 minutes, whichever is longer.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in future oil leakage.
Apply sealant in the locations shown.
2. Install the engine front cover and tighten the fasteners in the sequence shown.
^ Tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
3. Install the 4 oil pan-to-engine front cover bolts in the sequence shown in 3 stages:
^ Stage 1: Tighten to 2 Nm (18 inch lbs.).
^ Stage 2: Tighten to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
^ Stage 3: Tighten an additional 60 degrees.
4. Lubricate the engine front cover and the crankshaft seal inner lip with clean engine oil.
5. Using the special tools, install the crankshaft seal.
6. Install the crankshaft pulley.
7. Using the special tool to keep the pulley from rotating, install the coolant pump pulley and the bolts.
^ Tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
8. Install the CKP sensor and the mounting bolt.
^ Tighten to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
9. Connect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.
10. Install the transmission tube clip and the mounting nut.
^ Tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
11. Reposition and install the A/C compressor and mounting studs.
^ Tighten to 13 Nm (10 ft. lbs.).
12. Install the A/C compressor mounting nuts.
^ Tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
13. Connect the battery wiring harness retainer.
14. Connect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
15. Reposition the power steering pump and install he mounting bolts.
^ Tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
16. Install the power steering hose bracket and the mounting nut.
^ Tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
17. Install a new oil filter.
18. Install the CNIP sensor and the mounting bolt.
^ Tighten to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
19. Connect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector.
20. Install the power steering reservoir bracket and he bolts.
^ Tighten to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
21. Install the accessory drive belt tensioner and the mounting bolts.
^ Tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
22. Install the accessory drive belt idler pulley and he mounting bolts.
^ Tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
23. Install the cooling fan and upper fan shroud.
24. Install the valve covers.
25. Fill the engine with clean oil.
26. Connect the battery ground cable.
