FRONT SEAT BACKREST







Disassembly and Assembly

WARNING:
- Always wear safety glasses when repairing an air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) vehicle and when handling an air bag module. This will reduce the risk of injury in the event of an accidental deployment.
- The safety belt pretensioner is a pyrotechnic device. Always wear safety glasses when repairing an air bag equipped vehicle and when handling a safety belt buckle pretensioner or safety belt retractor pretensioner. Never probe a pretensioner electrical connector. Doing so could result in pretensioner or air bag deployment and could result in personal injury.
- To reduce the risk of personal injury, do not use any memory saver devices.

NOTE:
- If a seat equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS) component is being serviced, the SRS must be depowered.
- The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the RCM fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault.
- The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
- Driver seat shown, passenger seat similar.

All seats
1. Position the seat to allow access to the four mounting bolts.
2. Depower the SRS.
3. Remove the front seat.
4. Remove the front seat backrest.
5. Remove the head restraint.







6. Remove the seat backrest trim panel.
1 Push out retainer clips at bottom to release from the backrest frame.
2 Push out retainer clips at sides to release from the backrest frame.
3 Slide and rotate the trim panel downward and remove.

7. CAUTION: Use care when separating the upholstery from the hook and loop strip, or the hook and loop strip could be torn from the foam pad.

Release the backrest trim cover to foam pad retainers and invert the backrest trim cover in an inside-out fashion.
- Placing a hand between the seat backrest trim cover and pad, carefully separate the hook and loop strips.







8. Remove the 10 hog rings (1 shown).







9. NOTE:
- The inboard and outboard head restraint sleeves are not interchangeable.
- The head restraint sleeves incorporate an alignment tab that must face forward when installed.

Squeeze together the tip of the head restraint sleeve and pull the sleeve out of the frame tube.

10. Remove the backrest trim cover.
11. Remove the backrest foam pad.
12. Disconnect the power lumbar assembly electrical connector.







13. NOTE: The power lumbar assembly roll pins must not be reused. New roll pins that are included in the seat fastener service kit must be used.

Drive out and discard the 4 roll pins (2 shown) and remove the power lumbar assembly.

Climate controlled seats
14. Disconnect and remove the backrest thermo-electric device (TED).
15. Remove the pin-type retainer and the climate controlled seat backrest duct.

All seats
16. To assemble, reverse the disassembly procedure.
17. Install the front seat backrest.
18. Install the front seat.
19. Repower the SRS.
