Removal and Installation

1. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
2. Remove and discard the lower ball joint-to-wheel knuckle cotter pin.





3. Remove and discard the lower ball joint-to-wheel knuckle castellated nut.
^ To install, tighten to 150 Nm (111 ft. lbs.).

4. CAUTION: Do not use a prying device or separator fork between the upper or lower arm and the knuckle. Damage to the ball joint or ball joint dust boot can result.

CAUTION: Do not strike the wheel knuckle with a hammer to separate the ball joint from the wheel knuckle. Damage to the wheel knuckle can result. Make sure to apply direct force to the end of the ball joint stud when separating the ball joint from the knuckle.

CAUTION: Do not damage the boot when installing a suitable separator.

Using a suitable separator, separate the lower ball joint from the wheel knuckle.
5. Remove and discard the front stabilizer bar nut and grommet.
^ If necessary, pry downward on the stabilizer bar to detach the link from the arm.
^ Tap on the end of the stud to separate the stud from the lower arm.
^ To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

6. NOTE: Do not tighten until the installation procedure is complete and the weight of the vehicle is resting on the wheel and tire assemblies.

Remove the shock absorber-to-lower arm bolt.
^ To install, tighten to 350 Nm (258 ft. lbs.).
7. Remove and discard the shock absorber-to-lower arm flag nut.

8. NOTE: Do not tighten until the installation procedure is complete and the weight of the vehicle is resting on the wheel and tire assemblies.

Remove and discard the lower arm-to-frame nut (forward mounting).
^ To install, tighten to 400 Nm (295 ft. lbs.).
9. Remove the lower arm-to-frame flag bolt (forward mounting).
10. Remove and discard the 2 lower arm-to-frame nuts (rearward mounting).
^ To install, tighten to 200 Nm (148 ft. lbs.).
11. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
1. Check and, if necessary, align the front end.
2. Always install new:
^ cotter pins.
^ castellated nuts.
^ front stabilizer bar nut.
^ shock absorber-to-lower arm flag nut.
^ lower arm-to-frame nut (forward mounting).
^ lower arm-to-frame nuts (rearward mounting).
