Fluid Line/Hose: Service and Repair

Transmission Fluid Cooler Tubes





Material

Removal

All vehicles
1. Put the vehicle in NEUTRAL and position on a hoist.





2. Remove the bolts and the skid plate (4x4 vehicles).





3. Remove three fasteners and position the air deflector aside.
4. If not done previously, carry out the transmission fluid cooler flow test procedure.





4R70W without auxiliary fluid cooler
5. Remove the fluid cooler tubes, as necessary.





4R70W with auxiliary fluid cooler
6. Remove the fluid cooler tubes, as necessary.





4R100 without auxiliary fluid cooler

7. NOTE: If Cooler Bypass Valve (CBV) assembly removal is necessary, refer to Cooler Bypass Valve-4R100 Transmission.

Remove the fluid cooler tubes, as necessary.





4R100 with auxiliary fluid cooler

8. NOTE: If CBV assembly removal is necessary, refer to Cooler Bypass Valve-4R100.

Remove the fluid cooler tubes, as necessary.

Installation
4R70W without auxiliary fluid cooler





1. Install the fluid cooler tube(s).





4R70W with auxiliary fluid cooler
2. Install the fluid cooler tube(s).





4R100 without auxiliary fluid cooler

3. NOTE: If the CBV assembly was removed, refer to Cooler Bypass Valve-4R100 Transmission.

Install the fluid cooler tube(s).





4R100 with auxiliary fluid cooler

4. NOTE: If the CBV assembly was removed, refer to Cooler Bypass Valve-4R100 Transmission.

Install the fluid cooler tube(s).





5. Position the air deflector and install the fasteners.





6. Position the skid plate and install the bolts (4x4 vehicles).

Vehicles with 4R100 transmission
MERCON(R) automatic Transmission Fluid is being replaced by MERCON(R) V as a service fluid, as per TSB 06-14-4.

Fill the transmission with the specified type and quantity of transmission fluid.

Vehicles with 4R70W transmission
7. Fill the transmission with the specified type and quantity of transmission fluid.

All vehicles
8. Check for leaks.
9. If equipped with air suspension, reactivate the system by turning on the air suspension switch.
