Third Row Power Seat Stow Function Inoperative (Floor Latches Release and Buzzer Sounds)

Applicability

Introduction

Some customers may experience a condition where the 3rd row power seat stow function is inoperative. When the stow button is pressed the seat buzzer sounds and the floor latches release but there is no seat movement. The floor striker limit switches have been updated to resolve this concern. Follow the procedure in this bulletin to remove and replace the floor striker limit switches.

NOTE

If the seat buzzer does not sound and the floor latches do not release when pressing the stow button, follow TSIB L-SB-0122-08 "Power 3rd Row Seat Fold up Position Intermittently Inoperative"

APPLICABLE WARRANTY

^ This repair is covered under the Lexus Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

^ Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure

1. Remove the center headrest on the LH third row seat.

NOTE

The headrest for the center passenger (located on the LH seat) must be removed before stowing the seat. This headrest will bind on the 2nd row seat if it is NOT removed.

2. Apply protective tape to the rear seatback lock striker as shown in the illustration to prevent the seat from locking.





3. Remove rear seat cushion hinge cover.





4. Disconnect the 2 pin connector at the folding-up motor. RH connector l1 LH connector 19.





5. Press and hold the power seat stow switch. A beeping sound and latch release sound will be heard with no seat movement.





6. After you hear the beeping and latch release sound pull up on the seat assembly enough to lift the seat latches out of the floor strikers.

7. Move the seat to the upright position.








A. Using the wire harnesses included in the repair kit supply 12V to pin 2 and ground to pin 1 of the folding-up motor.





B. Continue to supply power to the motor until the seat is in the full upright position.





8. Remove the rear seat hinge cover.





9. Remove the rear seat assembly and place it on a clean work bench.





10. Move the seat to a 45° position.

A. Using the wire harness included in the repair kit supply 12V to pin 1 and ground to pin 2 of the folding-up motor.

B. While holding the seat in position continue to supply power to the motor until the seat reaches a 45° position.





11. Remove the nut connecting the link to the seat leg assembly.





12. Cover the end of the link to prevent damage to the seat assembly.





13. Remove the seat leg cover.

A. Remove the 2 screws.

B. Detach the 4 claws and remove the cover.





14. Remove the rear seat latch covers.

A. Remove the 2 screws.

B. Detach the 2 clamps and remove the 2 covers.





15. Cut off the two zip ties that fasten the limit switch harnesses to the seat bracket.





16. Detach the 2 cables from the seat bracket.





17. Disconnect the two limit switch harness connectors.








18. Detach the two limit switch connector clips.





19. Remove the two limit switches.

NOTE

The screws holding the limit switches are retained with thread lock. Be careful not to strip the screws when removing.





20. Install the two new limit switches and screws.

Torque: 0.3 N*m 2.7 in*lbf)

NOTE

Torque the limit switch screws to 0.3 Nm. DO NOT over torque the limit switch. If the limit switch is over torqued, the switch will be damaged and the power seat will not work properly.





21. Route the limit switch harnesses as shown in the illustration. The harnesses should be placed behind the clip brackets.





22. Attach the two clips.





23. Connect the two connectors.





24. Install the two new zip ties to fasten the harness to the bracket.

25. Attach the 2 cables to the seat brackets.





26. Install the rear seat latch covers.

27. Install the rear seat leg cover.

NOTE

The cables should be placed above the brackets.





A. Attach the 4 claws to install the cover.

B. Install the 2 screws.





28. Install the rear seat link assembly.

Torque: 8.5 N*m (75 in*lbf)

29. Move the seat to the upright position.





A. Using the harnesses included in the repair kit supply 12V to pin 2 and ground to pin 1 of the folding-up motor.

B. Continue to supply power to the motor until the seat is in the upright position.

30. Install the rear seat assembly.

A. Temporarily install the seat with the 4 bolts hand tightened.





B. Tighten the bolts in the order shown in the illustration.

Torque: 36.6 N*m (27 ft*lbf)





31. Install the rear seat hinge cover.





32. Install the rear seat cushion hinge cover.

33. Confirm the rear seat stow function operates correctly.

34. Install the center headrest on the LH third row seat.
