Shift Cable: Service and Repair

TRANSAXLE CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY

Components:

REMOVAL
1. PRECAUTION
2. REMOVE W/CONVERTER INVERTER ASSEMBLY
3. REMOVE INVERTER BRACKET NO.1
4. REMOVE EMISSION CONTROL VALVE SET
5. REMOVE INTAKE AIR SURGE TANK
6. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB
7. REMOVE CONSOLE PANEL UPPER FRONT
8. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LOWER
9. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH
10. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY RH
11. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY LOWER
12. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH
13. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
14. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY NO.2
15. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSEMBLY
16. REMOVE FLOOR CARPET COVER CENTER LH
17. REMOVE FLOOR CARPET COVER CENTER RH
18. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LOWER CENTER
19. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX HOLE COVER
20. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX HOLE COVER NO.2
21. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY
22. REMOVE CONSOLE COVER LOWER
23. SEPARATE TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY

a. In the engine compartment
1 Remove the nut from the control shaft lever.

2 Remove the clip and disconnect the control cable from the control cable bracket.

b. Disconnect the control cable from the control cable bracket No.2.

c. In the cabin
1 Using a screwdriver, disconnect the cable end from the shift lever assembly.

2 Pull out the stopper cap of the transmission control cable assembly.

3 Turn the socket of the transmission control cable counterclockwise and remove the stopper cap.

NOTICE: Do not push in the stopper cap.

24. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER
25. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX DUCT NO.1
26. REMOVE AIR DUCT REAR NO.1
27. REMOVE AIR DUCT REAR NO.2
28. REMOVE AIR BAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY CENTER

29. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 3 bolts.
b. Pull out the control cable from the body

INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY
a. Pull in the control cable to the body.
Install the 3 bolts.
Torque: 5.5 Nm (56 kgf-cm, 49 inch lbs.)

2. INSTALL AIR BAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY CENTER
3. INSTALL AIR DUCT REAR NO.2
4. INSTALL AIR DUCT REAR NO.1
5. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX DUCT NO.1
6. INSTALL SHIFT LEVER
7. CONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY
a. In the cabin
1 Connect the socket of the transmission control cable assembly to the shift lever assembly.

2 Turn the socket of the transmission control cable assembly clockwise and install the stopper cap.

NOTICE: Make sure that the transmission control cable assembly (socket) is firmly secured to the shift lever assembly.

3 Push the stopper cap to the socket as shown in the illustration.

4 Connect the control cable end to the shift lever assembly.

NOTICE:
^ Install the transmission control cable assembly with the graduated cuts to face upward to prevent torsion of the inner cable.
^ Push the cable end to the bottom of the pin.
^ Confirm that the connection between the socket and the shift lock control unit is fixed.

b. Move the shift lever to the N position.

c. In the engine compartment
1 Connect the control cable to the control cable clamp.
d. Move the control shaft lever to the N position.
e. Install a new clip to the control bracket.

f. Install the control cable to the control bracket.

NOTICE:
^ Make sure that the A claws on the clip are securely fit into the bracket holes.
^ Make sure that the cable is securely installed inside of the B claws of the clip.

g. Temporarily install the control cable to the control shaft lever with the nut.

h. Lightly push up the control cable end.

NOTICE: Do not push the control cable end excessively.

i. Release your hand from the control cable end and then fully tighten the nut.
Torque: 15 Nm (150 kgf-cm, 11 ft lbs.)

9. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY
10. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX HOLE COVER NO.2
11. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX HOLE COVER
12. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LOWER CENTER
13. INSTALL FLOOR CARPET COVER CENTER RH
14. INSTALL FLOOR CARPET COVER CENTER LH
15. INSTALL GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSEMBLY
16. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY NO.2
17. INSTALL COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
18. INSTALL FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH
19. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY LOWER
20. INSTALL COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY RH
21. INSTALL FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH
22. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LOWER
23. INSTALL CONSOLE PANEL UPPER FRONT
24. INSTALL SHIFT LEVER KNOB
25. INSTALL INTAKE AIR SURGE TANK
26. INSTALL EMISSION CONTROL VALVE SET
27. INSTALL INVERTER BRACKET NO.1
28. INSTALL W/CONVERTER INVERTER ASSEMBLY
29. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
