Transmission Installation

INSTALLATION
1. INSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY
2. INSTALL TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY
a. Install the torque converter clutch to the automatic transmission.





b. Using a vernier caliper and straightedge, measure the dimension A between the transmission and the end surface of the drive plate.
Standard dimension: A = 22.28 mm (0.8772 inch)





c. Using a vernier caliper and a straightedge, measure the distance from the installed surface of the transmission housing to the installed surface of the torque converter clutch.
Correct distance: More than 17.1 mm (0.673 inch)
3. INSTALL TRANSFER ASSEMBLY
a. Install the transfer assembly.





4. INSTALL WIRE HARNESS AND HOSE
a. Connect the 5 hoses and install the wire harness and hose.
b. Install the 6 connector clamps.
c. Connect the 5 connectors.
d. Attach the lock and connect the connector.
e. Install the 4 bolts.
Torque: 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.)





5. INSTALL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY
a. Install the transmission unit with the 10 bolts.
Torque:
71 Nm (724 kgf-cm, 52 ft. lbs.) for bolt A
37 Nm (377 kgf-cm, 27 ft. lbs.) for bolt B
b. Install the transmission wire clamp bolt.





6. INSTALL ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR REAR
a. Install the mounting insulator with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 59 Nm (600 kgf-cm, 43 ft. lbs.)

HINT: Install the insulator rear with the inscribing mark facing backward.





7. INSTALL CROSSMEMBER AND TRANSFER CASE PROTECTOR
a. Install the crossmember with the 8 bolts and 2 nuts.
Torque:
50 Nm (510 kgf-cm, 37 ft. lbs.) for bolt
74 Nm (750 kgf-cm, 54 ft. lbs.) for nut
b. Install the transfer case protector with the 3 bolts.
Torque: 29 Nm (296 kgf-cm, 21 ft. lbs.)





8. CONNECT GROUND CABLE
a. Install the ground cable with the bolt.





9. CONNECT OIL COOLER TUBE
a. Loosely install the tip of the oil cooler tubes to the automatic transmission by hand.
b. Install the clamp with the bolt.
Torque: 12 Nm (122 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.)
c. Using SST, tighten the tubes.
SST 09023-12701
Torque:
34 Nm (346 kgf-cm, 25 ft. lbs.) for use without SST
31 Nm (316 kgf-cm, 23 ft. lbs.) for use with SST





10. INSTALL DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SETTING BOLT
a. Hold the crankshaft pulley bolt with a wrench and install the 6 torque converter clutch setting bolts.
Torque: 48 Nm (490 kgf-cm, 35 ft. lbs.)

HINT: First install the green colored bolt.





b. Install the hole plug with the bolt.
Torque: 18 Nm (185 kgf-cm, 13 ft. lbs.)





11. CONNECT WIRE HARNESS
a. Connect the transmission wire and install the 3 clamps to the transmission unit.
b. Connect the 3 connectors.





12. CONNECT FLOOR SHIFT TRANSMISSION CONTROL ROD
a. Connect the shift control rod and install the pin and clip.





13. CONNECT TRANSFER SHIFT LEVER
a. Connect the transfer shift lever rod assembly with the nut.
Torque: 12 Nm (122 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.)
14. INSTALL REAR PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
15. INSTALL FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
16. INSTALL FRONT EXHAUST PIPE
a. Install the front exhaust pipe RH.





17. INSTALL TRANSFER SHIFT LEVER BOOT
a. Install the transfer shift lever boot with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.)
b. Install the upper console panel.
c. Install the transfer shift lever knob.
18. INSTALL DRIVE BELT, FAN AND FLUID COUPLING ASSEMBLY, FAN SHROUD AND RADIATOR RESERVOIR
a. Install the drive belt, fan and fluid coupling assembly, fan shroud and radiator reservoir.
19. INSTALL AIR CLEANER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY
20. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
21. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.

NOTICE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

22. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAKS
23. INSPECT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID
a. Inspect automatic transmission fluid.
24. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER
Torque: 28 Nm (286 kgf-cm, 21 ft. lbs.)
a. Install the No. 1 and No. 2 under covers.
