Front Suspension Lower Arm

FRONT SUSPENSION LOWER ARM

Components:






REMOVAL
1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL
Torque: 131 Nm (1,340 kgf-cm, 97 ft. lbs.)
2. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER
3. REMOVE TORSION BAR SPRING
a. Remove the torsion bar spring.





4. DISCONNECT FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the bolt and disconnect the stabilizer bar link from the lower suspension arm.
Torque: 52 Nm (530 kgf-cm, 38 ft. lbs.)





5. DISCONNECT FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the nut and bolt, and disconnect the shock absorber from the lower suspension arm.
Torque: 135 Nm (1,400 kgf-cm, 100 ft. lbs.)
6. DISCONNECT STEERING KNUCKLE
a. Remove the cotter pin and nut.
Torque: 159 Nm (1,625 kgf-cm, 117 ft. lbs.)





b. Using SST, disconnect the steering knuckle from the lower suspension arm.
SST 09628-62011





7. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION LOWER ARM ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 2 nuts, 3 bolts and lower suspension arm.
Torque: 167 Nm (1,702 kgf-cm, 123 ft. lbs.)


INSPECTION





1. INSPECT FRONT SUSPENSION LOWER ARM ASSEMBLY
a. As shown in the illustration, flip the ball joint stud back and forth 5 times, before installing the nut.
b. Using a torque wrench, turn the nut continuously one turn per 3 to 5 seconds and take the torque reading on the 5th turn.
Torque: Standard turning torque 0.29 to 2.94 Nm (3 to 30 kgf-cm, 2.6 to 26 inch lbs.)

REPLACEMENT
1. REPLACE FRONT NO. 1 LOWER ARM BUSH
a. Using a chisel and hammer, pry up the flange of the No. 1 bush.





b. Using SST, press out the bush.
SST 09710-30021 (09710-03101), 09950-00020, 09950-00030, 09950-40011 (09957-04010)





c. Using SST and a press, press in a new bush.
SST 09726-36010





2. REPLACE FRONT NO. 2 LOWER ARM BUSH
a. Using SST, remove the bush.
SST 09710-22021 (09710-01071), 09726-35011 (09726-05021), 09830-36010





b. Using SST, install a new bush.
SST 09830-36010, 09631-32020





3. REPLACE LOWER BALL JOINT DUST COVER
a. Remove the wire and dust cover.
b. Coat the ball joint with grease in the boot kit.
c. Install a new dust cover and wire.


INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

HINT:
^ After installation, inspect and adjust the front wheel alignment.
^ After installation, fill the AHC pump & motor reservoir with suspension fluid AHC, bleed the AHC system and check for leaks.
