Brake Pedal Assy: Service and Repair

BRAKE PEDAL

COMPONENTS:





REMOVAL
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

2. REMOVE HYDRAULIC BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the hydraulic brake booster.
3. REMOVE BRAKE PEDAL
a. Disconnect the connector from the stoplight switch.
b. Remove the 2 bolts.
c. Remove the brake pedal assembly





4. DISASSEMBLE BRAKE PEDAL
a. Remove the return spring with cushion.
b. Remove the stop light switch.
c. Remove the pedal pad.

INSTALLATION
1. REASSEMBLE BRAKE PEDAL
a. Install the pedal pad.
b. Install the stop light switch cushion.
c. Temporarily install the stop light switch to the pedal bracket.
d. Install the return spring with cushion and pedal pad.

HINT: Apply MP grease to the parts indicates by arrow.





2. INSTALL BRAKE PEDAL
a. Install the brake pedal and temporarily tighten the 2 bolts.
3. INSTALL HYDRAULIC BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY
a. Install the hydraulic brake booster.
4. TIGHTEN BRAKE PEDAL BRACKET BOLT
a. Tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque: 20 Nm (200 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.)
5. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
6. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.

NOTICE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

7. FILL RESERVOIR WITH BRAKE FLUID
8. BLEED AIR FROM HYDRAULIC BRAKE BOOSTER
9. BLEED AIR FROM BRAKE LINE
10. CHECK BRAKE FLUID LEVEL IN RESERVOIR
11. CHECK FOR BRAKE FLUID LEAKAGE
12. CHECK BRAKE PEDAL HEIGHT
13. ADJUST BRAKE PEDAL HEIGHT
14. CHECK BRAKE PEDAL FREE PLAY
15. CHECK BRAKE PEDAL RESERVE DISTANCE
