Braking Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair
BRAKE PEDAL STROKE SENSORCOMPONENTS:
REMOVAL
1. PRECAUTION, refer to Restraint Systems Service Precautions.
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
3. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH
4. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
5. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB ASSEMBLY LOWER
6. REMOVE DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
7. REMOVE BRAKE PEDAL STROKE SENSOR ASSEMBLY
a. Disconnect the brake pedal stroke sensor assembly connector.
b. Remove the 2 bolts and the brake pedal stroke sensor assembly.
INSPECTION
1. INSPECT BRAKE PEDAL STROKE SENSOR ASSEMBLY
a. Inspect the brake pedal stroke sensor assembly. If any of the following occurs, replace with a new brake pedal stroke sensor assembly:
^ The surface of the brake pedal stroke sensor assembly is cracked, dented, or chipped off.
^ The connector is scratched, cracked, or damaged.
^ The brake pedal stroke sensor assembly has been dropped.
b. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table.

INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL BRAKE PEDAL STROKE SENSOR ASSEMBLY
a. New brake pedal stroke sensor assembly:
(1) Install a new brake pedal stroke sensor assembly with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 9.3 Nm (95 kgf-cm, 82 inch lbs.)
NOTICE:
^ Engage the brake pedal stroke sensor assembly lever with the brake pedal groove.
^ Check that there is no foreign matter attached to the contact surface of the brake pedal stroke sensor.
(2) Strongly depress the brake pedal and the brake pedal stroke sensor assembly lever set pin will break.
(3) Remove the broken lever set pin.
(4) Connect the brake pedal stroke sensor assembly connector.
b. Reuse of brake pedal stroke sensor assembly:
(1) Temporarily install the brake pedal stroke sensor assembly with the 2 bolts.
NOTICE:
^ Engage the brake pedal stroke sensor lever with the brake pedal groove.
^ Check that there is no foreign matter attached to the contact surface of the brake pedal stroke sensor.
(2) Connect the connector to the brake pedal stroke sensor assembly.
(3) Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal.
(4) Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.
(5) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
Reading the stroke sensor 1 value shown on the data monitor, turn the stroke sensor slowly to the right and left to adjust the value to the standard voltage.
Standard voltage: 0.8 to 1.2 V
(6) Fully tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque: 9.3 Nm (95 kgf-cm, 82 inch lbs.)
NOTICE: Do not depress the brake pedal after turning the ignition switch to the ON position.
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
3. INSTALL DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
4. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUBASSEMBLY LOWER
5. INSTALL COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
6. INSTALL FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH
7. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
8. CHECK AND CLEAR DTC
9. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT
10. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
Some systems need initialization after reconnecting the cable to the negative battery terminal.
