"HANDS-FREE" SOUND QUALITY IMPROVEMENT

Introduction
When installing the Lexus "Nokia" Integrated Mobile Phone System in 2003 model year LX 470 vehicles, some customers may complain about a buzz noise on the landline side during a "hands-free" call. A new microphone has been developed to address this concern.
NOTE:
Some LX 470 vehicles already have the improved microphone. Please refer to the inspection procedure to determine if the microphone needs to be replaced.

Applicable warranty*
This repair is covered under the Lexus Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.
Operation Flow Chart
Inspection Procedure
1. Remove the Overhead Module.
A. Open the overhead console box (sunglass holder) as shown in Figure 1.
B. Remove the bolt as shown in Figure 1.
C. Lower the overhead module.
D. Disconnect the 3 connectors.
2. Check the Microphone.
A. The new microphone has the part number and an arrow printed on each side of the microphone, as shown in Figure 2.
a. If the microphone is the previous part number (no part number or arrow), then replace the microphone (see Removal and Installation Procedures).
b. If the microphone is the new part number (printed part number and arrow) then replacement is not necessary. Reinstall the overhead module.
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the Previous Microphone.
A. Remove the screw and bracket as shown in Figure 3.
B. Unfasten the microphone wire harness from the guide as shown in Figure 4.
C. Disconnect the wire harness connector from the microphone amplifier and the connector from the overhead module as shown in Figure 5.
D. Remove the amplifier.
STEP 1: Raise the amplifier from the side, as shown in Figure 6.
STEP 2: While still raised, slide the amplifier to the right, as shown in Figure 6.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the New Microphone.
A. Connect the microphone amplifier connector to the overhead module. Then connect the microphone to the microphone amplifier as shown in Figure 7.
NOTE:
Ensure that the connector lock is engaged.
B. Reinstall the new microphone amplifier by sliding it back onto the bracket in the direction shown in Figure 8.
C. Lead the microphone wire harness through the guide as shown in Figure 9.
D. Install the new microphone and secure it with the original bracket and screw, as shown in Figure 10.
NOTE:
Ensure that the microphone is mounted between the two projection tabs as shown in Figure 10.
2. Reinstall the Overhead Module.
