Power Steering Pump: Service and Repair






Power Steering Pump
This is a "Trustmark Authoring Standards (TAS) Repair Procedure"
- TAS style procedures can be identified by steps that have no accompanying step text and the magenta color of the electrical connectors and fasteners such as nuts, bolts, clamps or clips.
- TAS removal and installation procedures use a sequence of color illustrations to indicate the order to be followed when removing/disassembling or installing/assembling a component.
- Many of the TAS procedures will have the installation information within the removal steps.
- The TAS color illustrations use a variety of symbols to indicate important details of the procedures. It is important to understand these symbols in order to properly used the TAS procedures.

Removal
1 Remove the cover and disconnect the battery ground cable.

2 Remove the engine cover.
For additional information, refer to Engine Cover - 3.2L NA - I6 Service and Repair
3 Remove the battery tray.
For additional information, refer to Battery Tray Service and Repair
4 Remove the air cleaner assembly.
For additional information, refer to Air Cleaner Service and Repair
5 Siphon the fluid from the power steering reservoir.




6 Remove the A/C compressor, lower support bracket.




7 Using suitable tools, release the accessory drive belt tension.





CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.

NOTE:
Make sure that all openings are sealed.
8 Disconnect the power steering fluid lines.




9 Release the power steering pump support bracket.





10 Remove the coolant pump drive retaining screws.





NOTE:
Note the orientation of the coolant pump drive for installation.

11 Remove the power steering pump.

Installation

CAUTION: Make sure that the coolant pump drive is located to the retaining spring.

NOTE:
Make sure that the coolant pump drive is installed to the noted position in the power steering pump pulley.
1 Install the power steering pump.
Torque to: 25 Nm
2 Install the coolant pump drive retaining screws.
Torque to: 10 Nm

CAUTION: Extreme cleanliness must be exercised when handling these components.

CAUTION: A new O-ring seal is to be installed.
3 Connect the power steering fluid lines.
Torque to: 27 Nm
4 Install the accessory drive belt.
5 Install the A/C compressor, lower support bracket.
Torque to: 25 Nm
6 Install the air cleaner assembly.

7 Install the battery tray.

8 Install the engine cover.

9 Fill and bleed the power steering system.

10 Connect the battery ground cable and install the cover.
