Front Steering Knuckle: Service and Repair
Wheel Knuckle
This is a "Trustmark Authoring Standards (TAS) Repair Procedure"
- TAS style procedures can be identified by steps that have no accompanying step text and the magenta color of the electrical connectors and fasteners such as nuts, bolts, clamps or clips.
- TAS removal and installation procedures use a sequence of color illustrations to indicate the order to be followed when removing/disassembling or installing/assembling a component.

Removal
NOTE:
Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
1 Remove the plenum chamber panel.

2 Release the hood support struts and secure the hood in an upright position.
WARNING: Make sure to support the vehicle with axle stands.
3 Raise and support the vehicle.
4 Remove the wheel and tire.

CAUTION: Discard the bolt.
CAUTION: Do not use air tools to install the bolt. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the component.
Step 1: 45 Nm
Step 2: 60 degree
CAUTION: Do not use a hammer to detach the halfshaft from the hub assembly, failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the halfshaft.
5 Partially release the front halfshaft from the wheel knuckle.
Special Service Tool
Remover, Halfshaft, 205-857
WARNING: Make sure that a new nut is installed.
CAUTION: Make sure that the ball joint ball does not rotate.
Torque to: 60 Nm
Torque to: 5 Nm
WARNING: Make sure that a new tie-rod end nut is installed.
CAUTION: Make sure that the ball joint ball does not rotate.
Torque to: 80 Nm
Special Service Tool
Separator, Ball Joint, 211-316
CAUTION: Make sure that no load is placed on the brake hose.
Torque to: 200 Nm
Torque to: 35 Nm
Torque to: 10 Nm
NOTE:
This step requires the aid of another technician.

G-Clamp, 204-619
Torque to: 110 Nm
Special Service Tool
Lever, Wheel Knuckle, 204-159
CAUTION: Do not allow halfshafts to hang unsupported at one end or joint damage will occur.
CAUTION: Do not use a hammer to detach the halfshaft from the hub assembly, failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the halfshaft.
WARNING: Make sure that a new lower arm ball joint nut is installed.
CAUTION: Make sure that the ball joint ball does not rotate.
Special Service Tool
Splitter, Ball Joints, 205-754A
Torque to: 100 Nm
Installation
CAUTION: Make sure that the brake hose is not twisted and is correctly located.
CAUTION: Nuts and bolts must be tightened with the weight of the vehicle on the suspension.
CAUTION: Install the halfshaft bolt finger tight.
NOTE:
Make sure that all the component mating faces are clean.
