Parking Brake Shoes
This is a "Trustmark Authoring Standards (TAS) Repair Procedure"
- TAS style procedures can be identified by steps that have no accompanying step text and the magenta color of the electrical connectors and fasteners such as nuts, bolts, clamps or clips.
- TAS removal and installation procedures use a sequence of color illustrations to indicate the order to be followed when removing/disassembling or installing/assembling a component.
- Many of the TAS procedures will have the installation information within the removal steps.
- The TAS color illustrations use a variety of symbols to indicate important details of the procedures. It is important to understand these symbols in order to properly used the TAS procedures.

Removal
NOTE:
If the parking brake shoes or the brake discs have been removed for access to other components then DO NOT carry out the bedding in procedure.
WARNING: Do not work on or under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle on safety stands.
1 Raise and support the vehicle.
2 Remove the wheels and tires.

3 Remove both rear brake discs.

4 Repeat the above procedure for the other side.
Installation
WARNING: Do not use compressed air to clean brake components. Dust from friction materials can be harmful if inhaled.
1 Clean the backing plate and apply grease to the brake shoe contacts.
2 Clean the adjuster and set it to its minimum extension.
CAUTION: Make sure the brake shoe spring is not over stretched.
Install the secondary brake shoe.
Connect the parking brake cable.
Connect the parking brake cable retaining spring to the brake shoe lever, making sure the spring is not twisted.
Install the hold-down spring and retaining pin.
WARNING: Make sure the return spring and the adjuster spring are correctly installed to the primary shoe.
CAUTION: Make sure the brake shoe spring is not over stretched.
Install the primary brake shoe.
Install the spreader plate and the spring.
Install the return spring.
Install the hold-down spring and retaining pin.
CAUTION: Make sure the brake shoe spring is not over stretched.
3 Install the brake shoe adjuster.
4 Repeat the above procedure for the other side.
5 Install both rear brake discs.

6 Install the wheels and tires.

7 If necessary, carry out the parking brake shoe bedding-in procedure.
