Power Steering Pump: Service and Repair

Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
WARNING: Do not work on or under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle on safety stands.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Remove the engine undershield.
4. Remove the radiator splash shield.
5. Release the accessory drive belt.
^ Rotate the tensioner assembly counter-clockwise.
^ Release the accessory drive belt from the power steering pump pulley.
CAUTION: Make sure that all openings are sealed. Use new blanking caps.
6. Disconnect the power steering pump supply hose.
^ Position a container to collect the fluid spillage.
^ Release the clip.
CAUTION: Make sure that all openings are sealed. Use new blanking caps.
7. Disconnect the power steering pump high-pressure line.
^ Remove and discard the 2 sealing washers.
8. Remove the power steering pump.
^ Remove the 4 bolts.
Installation
1. Install the power steering pump.
^ Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
2. Connect the power steering pump high-pressure line.
^ Clean the component mating faces.
^ Install new sealing washers.
^ Tighten the union to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
3. Connect the power steering pump supply hose.
^ Clean the component mating faces.
^ Secure with the clip.
^ Remove the container.
4. Secure the accessory drive belt.
^ Rotate the tensioner assembly counter-clockwise.
5. Install the radiator splash shield.
6. Install the engine undershield.
7. Connect the battery ground cable.
8. Fill and bleed the power steering system.
