Power Steering Pump: Service and Repair

Power Steering Pump - 4.2L

Service Repair No - 57.20.14


Removal

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Remove the accessory drive belt.
4. Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner.
^ Remove the bolt.





5. Remove the LH front wheel.

6. NOTE: Restrain the pulley to aid the removal of the bolts.

Remove the power steering pump pulley.
^ Remove and discard the 3 bolts.





7. CAUTION: Always plug any open connections to prevent contamination.

Disconnect the low pressure line.
^ Release the clip.
^ Allow the fluid to drain into a container.





8. Disconnect the high pressure line.
^ Remove and discard the O-ring seal.





9. Remove the power steering pump.
^ Remove the 4 bolts.





Installation

1. Install the power steering pump.
^ Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

2. Connect the high pressure line.
^ Clean the component mating faces.
^ Install a new O-ring seal.
^ Tighten the union to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

3. Connect the low pressure line.
^ Clean the component mating faces.
^ Secure with the clip.

4. Install the power steering pump pulley.
^ Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

5. Install the front wheel.
^ Tighten the wheel nuts to 140 Nm (103 ft. lbs.).

6. Install the accessory drive belt tensioner.
^ Tighten the bolt to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).

7. Install the accessory drive belt.
8. Connect the battery ground cable.
9. Fill and bleed the power steering system.
