Load NAV Software Following Correct Procedure
NOTE:If this software re-configuration procedure is being carried out after fitting a service replacement Satellite Navigation system YIB500040, the re-configuration procedure should be carried out before changing the navigation language setting.
NOTE:
For concerns with a "blank screen" when starting up (or soon after starting) on mornings when overnight temperatures have been below freezing, refer to Technical Bulletin 86/14/03/NAS "NAV Display Inoperative in Cold Weather Conditions"
1. Prepare the vehicle for software update as follows:
^ Apply the handbrake.
^ Start the engine and ensure it remains running until the installation procedure is complete.
^ Verify that the radio/audio system is switched off (by pressing the left hand rotary button if necessary).
^ Switch off all other electrical loads, including the air conditioning, heated seats etc.
CAUTION:
Switching off the ignition during the software loading procedure can cause navigation computer failure.
2. Open the tailgate, and remove the trim panel on the left hand side of the luggage compartment to reveal the Satellite Navigation computer.
3. Note the language setting currently being used by the customer.
4. Remove the map CD from the navigation computer.
5. Insert the software installation CD (LRL0568 3rd Edtion or later).
NOTE:
CDs are prone to wear and damage with repeated handling and usage. If the unprinted surface of the CD has become scored, scratched or has a "matt" appearance do not use the CD. Replace the worn CD with a new one. Discard old and worn CDs to avoid inadvertent use. Grease smears, dust, etc. can cause damage to the laser read head inside the computer. Care must be taken in the handling and storage of CDs.
6. Observe the system perform the automatic software load:
^ The screen will alternately darken and lighten for up to 20 seconds.
^ The screen may flicker or display small red text before a message displays warning that software will be loaded,
^ A bar graph will appear showing load progress.
^ The software update process will take several minutes.
CAUTION:
It is very important that the process is not interrupted during the upload. Buttons MUST NOT be pressed and the ignition MUST NOT be switched off, or system malfunction may occur.
7. When the software loading procedure is complete, observe the CD automatically eject.
8. Wait for the system to request you to remove the CD.
9. Remove the disk and press "OK".
10. Wait for the Satellite Navigation system to shut down and restart during the next minute or so.
NOTE:
Avoid opening or closing vehicle doors during the next step, as this will restart the shutdown timer each time. The red power LED on the NAV computer will go out when the power down process is completed.
11. When the Satellite Navigation system has restarted and the main menu screen has returned (both on-road and off-road navigation options are available), perform the following:
^ Verify that the tailgate is open.
^ Switch off the ignition.
^ Remove the ignition key.
^ Allow approximately 60 seconds for the Satellite Navigation system computer to shut down and the red power LED to go out.
12. Switch on the ignition, and check that the Satellite Navigation system powers up correctly with the Land Rover logo and the Main Menu.
13. Re-insert the map CD into the Navigation computer
14. At the main menu check that both on-road and off-road navigation options are available.
15. Switch off the ignition.
16. Install the trim panel in the left-hand side of the luggage compartment.
17. If the loading is disrupted and the system does not re-start after loading, refer to the "NAV Computer Recovery Procedure" in this bulletin for instructions on how to recover the Satellite Navigation system.
