Rear Differential


Drive Shaft

Remove

1. Raise rear of vehicle.

WARNING: Do not work on or under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle on safety stands.

2. Remove road wheel.





3. Release stake in drive shaft nut.
4. With an assistant depressing the brake pedal,remove and discard the drive shaft nut.
5. Remove rear brake disc.





6. Remove Allen bolt securing ABS sensor and release ABS sensor from wheel hub. Remove and discard '0' ring from ABS sensor,





7. Remove 4 bolts securing wheel hub to axle.





8. Release and remove wheel hub from axle and drive shaft. Remove and discard O-ring from wheel hub.
9. Remove drive shaft.

Refit

1. Clean drive shaft splines, spline runs, wheel hub and axle mating faces, ABS sensor and ABS sensor recess in wheel hub.
2. Lubricate new wheel hub O-ring with clean differential oil.
3. Fit drive shaft to axle.
4. Align wheel hub and fit to drive shaft and axle. Fit bolts securing wheel hub to axle and tighten to 100 Nm (74 lbf.ft).
5. Fit new O-ring on ABS sensor and fit ABS sensor to wheel hub. Fit ABS sensor Allen bolt and tighten to 18 Nm (13 lbf.ft).
6. Fit rear brake disc. Refer to Brakes and Traction Control.
7. With an assistant depressing the brake pedal, fit new drive shaft nut and tighten to 490 Nm (360 lbf.ft). Stake drive shaft nut.
8. Fit road wheel and tighten nuts to 140 Nm (103 lb.ft).
9. Remove stand (s) and lower vehicle.
10. Check differential oil level.
