Front Differential
Drive Shaft
Remove
1. Raise front of vehicle.
WARNING: Do not work on or under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle on safety stands.
2. Remove road wheel.
3. Release stake from drive shaft nut.
4. With assistance, remove drive shaft nut. Discard the nut.
5. Remove front brake disc. Refer to Brakes and Traction Control.
6. Remove Allen bolt securing ABS sensor and release ABS sensor from wheel hub. Remove and discard O-ring from ABS sensor.
7. Remove 4 bolts securing wheel hub to steering knuckle.
8. Release wheel hub from steering knuckle.
9. Remove wheel hub from drive shaft.
10. Remove drive shaft.
11. Remove oil seal from axle casing.
Refit
1. Clean drive shaft oil seal recess, drive shaft splines, oil seal running surface, wheel hub and steering knuckle mating faces, ABS sensor and sensor recess.
2. Lubricate oil seal lip and running surface with clean differential oil.
3. Using LRT-51-006 and LRT-99-134, fit new drive shaft oil seal to axle casing.
4. Fit drive shaft to axle casing.
5. Apply anti-seize compound to wheel hub and steering knuckle mating faces.
6. Ensure ABS harness is located in cut out in steering knuckle.
7. Fit wheel hub and align to steering knuckle. Fit wheel hub bolts and tighten to 100 Nm (74 ft. lbs.).
8. Fit new O-ring on ABS sensor and fit ABS sensor to wheel hub. Fit ABS sensor Allen bolt and tighten to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).
9. Fit front brake disc. Refer to Brakes and Traction Control.
10. With assistance fit new drive shaft nut and tighten to 490 Nm (360 ft. lbs.). Stake drive shaft nut.
11. Fit road wheel and tighten nuts to 140 Nm (103 ft. lbs.).
12. Remove stand(s) and lower vehicle.
13. Check differential oil level.
