Power Steering Pump: Service and Repair

Power Steering Pump

NOTE:
^ The power steering pump is not serviceable.
^ Install new pump if worn or damaged.

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery negative lead.
2. Remove drive belt from steering pump. Refer to Engine
3. Remove undertray.
4. Remove fan blades and viscous coupling. Refer to Cooling System
5. Position drain tin beneath steering pump.





6. Using a suitable 9 mm Allen wrench to counterhold steering pump pulley, remove the 3 bolts (6) securing pulley to pump, then remove pulley.





7. Loosen clamp (7) securing reservoir hose to steering pump, then disconnect hose.
8. Disconnect high pressure pipe (8) from steering pump.

NOTE: Plug the connections.

9. Release high tension lead (9) from clip
10. Remove the 3 bolts (10) securing steering pump, then remove pump and recover engine lifting bracket.

NOTE: Do not carry out further dismantling if component is removed for access only.

11. Remove 5 bolts (11) securing front mounting plate.
12. Install front mounting plate to replacement steering pump, then tighten bolts to 9 Nm.

INSTALLATION
1. Position steering pump and engine lifting plate, fit bolts. Tighten to 35 Nm. Secure high tension lead in clip.
2. Connect high pressure pipe to steering pump, tighten union to 20 Nm.
3. Connect reservoir hose to steering pump, then tighten clamp to 3 Nm.
4. Position pulley to pump, coat threads of bolts with Loctite 242, or equivalent.
5. Counterhold pulley using a 9 mm Allen wrench, fit bolts, then tighten to 10 Nm.
6. Install drive belt.
7. Install fan blades and viscous coupling.
8. Install undertray.
9. Reconnect battery negative lead.
10. Bleed power steering system. Service and Repair
