Steering Wheel: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Remove drivers air bag module, refer to Airbags and Seatbelts.
2. Disconnect steering wheel switch multiplug.





3. Release harnesses from clip (4).
4. Remove bolt (5) securing steering wheel to column.
5. Remove steering wheel.

NOTE: Ensure that air bag module and steering wheel switch harnesses are released during steering wheel removal.

DISASSEMBLY





1. Remove 2 screws securing multiplug (7) to horn unit.
2. Remove 3 screws (8) securing printed circuit to horn unit.

CAUTION:
^ Take great care when removing the 3 screws securing the printed circuit to horn unit.
^ The screws are non replacable and other fasteners must not be used.
^ If the screws are damaged during removal, the steering wheel must be renewed.

3. Lift 2 clips (9) securing each switch pack.
- Remove switch packs and printed circuit assembly.

ASSEMBLY
1. Position switch pack assembly.
- Engage switches to steering wheel.

NOTE: Ensure switches are correctly engaged.

2. Secure multiplug and printed circuit with screws (8).

INSTALLATION
1. Route harnesses through steering wheel aperture.
2. Position steering wheel.
- Secure with bolt (5), then tighten to 33 Nm (24 ft. lbs.).
3. Connect steering wheel switch multiplug.
4. Secure harnesses in clip (4).
5. Install drivers air bag module.
