Power Steering Pump: Service and Repair

CAUTION: Seal all disconnected pipes and ports to prevent ingress of dirt.

REMOVAL
1. Remove alternator drive belt.





2. Remove 3 bolts (2) securing pump pulley, then remove pulley.
3. Position container to catch fluid.





4. Release clip (4) securing return hose to pump, then remove hose.
5. Disconnect high pressure pipe union (5) from pump.
6. Remove 4 bolts (6) securing pump and compressor mounting bracket to engine.
7. Remove 3 bolts (7) securing mounting plate to pump, then remove plate.
8. Remove pump assembly.





9. Remove 2 screws (9) securing engine lifting bracket to pump.

INSTALLATION
1. Ensure mating faces are clean.
2. Position lifting bracket to pump.
- Secure with screws (9), then tighten to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).
3. Position mounting plate to pump.
- Loosely fit bolts.
4. Align pump assembly and compressor mounting bracket to engine.
- Secure with bolts (7), then tighten to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
5. Tighten pump to mounting bolts (6) to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).
6. Connect high pressure pipe (5) to pump, then tighten to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.).
7. Position return hose to pump.
- Secure with clip (4).
8. Position pulley to pump.
- Secure with bolts (2), then tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
9. Secure coolant hose to lifting bracket.
10. Install drive belt.
11. Reconnect battery negative lead.
12. Bleed power steering system. Service and Repair
