Ref:

Issue: 1

Date: 07/18/97

Improved Air Conditioner Reliability

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
DEFENDER (LD) ALL 1997 with Air Conditioning

SITUATION:

LOSS OF AIR CONDITIONER COOLING

The Air Conditioning system compressor does not engage when cooling is required. The cause may be that Fuse 16 has blown, resulting in an open circuit. A poor ground circuit from the AC compressor may also contribute to the problem.

RESOLUTION:

INSTALLATION OF 20 AMP FUSE IN POSITION 16 AND MODIFIED GROUND

A service kit is being made available which upgrades the fuse 16 position from a 15 Amp fuse to a 20 Amp fuse. Corrected labeling and Owners Manual information is also provided in the kit. In addition to the upgraded fuse, the ground wire for the compressor clutch is to be relocated to an improved location as described in the procedure below to ensure a good path to ground.
