DETAIL

Two sources (or causes) of a buzzing / rattling type noise coming from the transfer box shift lever area has been identified.

(1) The transfer box linkage

(2) The high/low shift lever knob button.

ACTION REQUIRED

Upon customer complaint attempt to reproduce the condition and then follow the procedures as outlined below.

PARTS INFORMATION

Nylon tie wrap - at least 1/4" wide, 8-10" long - tensile strength 175 lbs - locally sourced.

(Recommended tie wrap - order from McMaster Carr - (201) 329 3200 - part number 7130K18)

Loctite 454 adhesive (or equivalent) locally sourced.

PROCEDURE





Transfer Box Linkage

1. Referencing illustration, from under the vehicle install tie-wrap and tighten just enough to remove linkage freeplay.

2. Remove excess tie-wrap

High/Low Shift Lever Knob Button

1. Check the button (which may be constructed of plastic or wood) for looseness in knob.

2. If found to be loose remove button from knob and apply an adhesive such as Loctite 454 (or equivalent) to the back of the button making sure not to get adhesive on visual areas of knob or button.

3. Reinstall button ensuring that High/Low graphics are aligned correctly.

4. Road test to ensure condition has been corrected.
