Steering Gear Drop Arm

Removal

1. Park vehicle on level surface and chock rear wheels. Raise vehcile and locate axle stands or use a ramp.





2. Disconnect steering linkage damper from drag link.
3. Disconnect drag link ball joint from drop arm (pitman arm) using extractor LRT-57-018.





4. Mark drop arm and steering box for reassembly.





5. Bend back tabs on locking washer, slacken retaining nut, but do not remove.
6. Fit extractor LRT-57-012 and release drop arm from steering box spline.
7. Remove nut and discard locking washer.
8. Remove drop arm.

Installation

1. Centralize steering gear.
2. Align reassembly marks and install drop arm onto steering gear splines.
3. Install new locking washer and retaining nut to secure drop arm to steering gear. Tighten to 176 Nm (130 ft. lbs.) and bend over locking washer.
4. Install drag link to drop arm. Tighten ball joint nut to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.)
9. Remove axle stands and lower vehicle or remove vehicle from ramps.
