NEW FORMAT - TECHNICAL INFORMATION BULLETINS
Beginning in 1994, Land Rover North America, Inc. will issue product-related service information in the format used worldwide by Land Rover. Technical and service information of a product nature will be issued on Technical Information Bulletins (TIBs) on white paper.
A sample TIB is included with this bulletin.
NUMBERING TECHNICAL INFORMATION BULLETINS
Numbering of these bulletins will be similar to the existing system used for North American Service Bulletins. The number will be comprised of 4 elements, and will appear in the format of the following example: 19/1/94/US. The elements refer to the Workshop Manual section (19 - Fuel System), Bulletin number in that section (1 - first bulletin in fuel system), year of the bulletin (94), and language (US - American/Canadian).
VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION - TECHNICAL INFORMATION BULLETINS
You should also be aware that vehicles (Defender, Discovery and Range Rover) are identified differently by Land Rover worldwide. when vehicle VIN ranges are indicated, the two letters prior to the consecutive VIN represent the third and fourth characters of the 17-character VIN (rather than the actual two proceeding characters, which represent the model year). The third VIN character "L") indicates the country of origin and the fourth character the specific model ("D" - Defender, "J" - Discovery and "H" - Range Rover). For example:
LD = Defender
LH = Range Rover
LJ = Discovery
This change is being made so that our product related bulletins (TIBs) will perfectly match those found on TestBook.
SERVICE BULLETINS
Existing buff-colored Service Bulletins will continue, except for those in the "Product" section. Use the Product Section in your Service Bulletin binder to store Technical Information Bulletins.
RECALLS
Special note should be taken regarding recalls and campaigns. Purely technical information and repair procedures will be found on Technical Information Bulletins. The other information pertaining to handling of a recall, samples of owner letters, etc. will be issued on a Service Bulletin.

BULLETIN ROUTING
Distribution of bulletins will remain as before with the following significant change. Parts Managers will no longer receive Service Bulletins. If information on a Service Bulletin affects the Parts Department, it will be provided on a Parts Bulletin. This will alleviate uncertainty of Parts Managers regarding the completeness of information they receive.
