Rear Lashing Ring Bolt Replacement

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
DEFENDER (LD) VA999223 to VA120989

SITUATION:

INCORRECT BOLT USED IN ASSEMBLY

Bolts without the correct unthreaded shoulder were used during production to retain the rear lashing ring on some Defender vehicles. Some vehicles have had the correct bolts installed either at the factory or at the port of entry. These vehicles can be identified by a paint dot on the head of the bolt.

^ Factory replacement YELLOW PAINT DOT
^ Port replacement WHITE PAINT DOT

RESOLUTION:

REPLACE INCORRECT BOLT

Inspect all vehicles which fall within the above VIN range at the first service opportunity. If no paint dot is present, remove the lashing ring bolt and replace with correct hardware.

NOTE:
Issue 1 contained incorrect SRO number in the Warranty Claims portion of the TIB. Please ensure that you use standard campaign claims procedures noting the campaign identifier and the Option code as listed above.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:





1. Inspect the vehicle to determine if the rear lashing ring bolts have been replaced.

^ If yellow or white paint dot identification is present on the bolt heads, no further action is required.

^ If no identification mark is present, perform the following repair.

2. Remove the lashing bolt hardware from both rear lashing rings and discard.

3. Fit new hardware to secure the lashing rings and tighten to 65-70 Nm (48-52 lbf. ft.).

4. Apply white paint dot to the bolt heads to indicate the service action work has been completed.

NOTE:

5. Apply a completed campaign label to the front cross member under the hood to identify that Service Action H472 has been performed.
