Rear Suspension

Wheel Bearing and Wheel Hub - Vehicles Built Up To: 01/1999

90/110/130 Axles

Service Repair No - 64.15.14








Removal

1. Raise rear of vehicle and support rear axle onto axle stands. Remove appropriate road wheel.
2. Release brake hose clips arid remove brake caliper bolts. Secure caliper to one side.

WARNING: Take care not to kink brake hose.

3. Remove 5 bolts and withdraw axle shaft.
4. Remove and discard joint washer.
5. Bend back lock washer tabs.
6. Remove locknut and lock washer. Discard lock washer.
7. Remove hub adjusting nut.
8. Remove spacing washer.
9. Remove hub and brake disc assembly complete with bearings.
10. Mark, for reassembly, position of hub to brake disc.
11. Remove 5 bolts and separate hub from brake disc.

WARNING: A maximum of two road wheel retaining studs can be renewed. Should more studs be unserviceable install new hub with studs.

12. Remove grease seal and inner bearing from hub.
13. Remove inner and outer bearing tracks (races).






Installation
1. Clean hub and install inner and outer bearing tracks (races).
2. Pack hub inner bearing with grease and install to hub.







3. With lip side leading install a new seal flush with rear face of hub. Using service tool LRT-99-003 seal replacer and LRT-54-003 drift. Apply grease between seal lips,
4. Assemble brake disc to the hub, line up reassembly marks. Applying sealant Part No. STC 50552 to the threads of retaing bolts, install and tighten retaining bolts to 73 Nm (55 ft. lbs.).
5. Pack hub outer bearing with grease and install to hub.
6. Clean stub axle.
7. Install hub assembly to stub axle.






8. Install spacing washer.
9. Install hub adjusting nut. Tighten to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.) ensure hub is free to rotate with no bearing play. Back off adjusting nut 90° and tighten to 10 Nm (84 inch lbs.).
10. Install a NEW lock washer.
11. Install locknut. Tighten to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.).
12. Tab over lock washer to secure adjusting nut and locknut.
13. Using a NEW joint washer, install axle shaft to hub. Tighten bolts to 65 Nm (48 ft. lbs.).
14. Install brake caliper. Tighten bolts to 82 Nm (60 ft. lbs.). Secure brake pipes to axle casing.
15. Install road wheel, remove axle stands and tighten road wheel nuts to 130 Nm (95 ft. lbs.).
16. Operate footbrake to locate brake pads before driving vehicle.
