1993 RANGE ROVER - BODY NOISE COMPLAINT
Customer complaints of a creaking noise from the rear body/loadspace area can be the result of a problem with the rear floor support pads on vehicles between the VIN range of:
PA632277 to ... PA634764.
The rubber pads are riveted to the support brackets and in some cases a rivet head can contact the floor causing a creaking type noise.
There are a total of four support pads/brackets per vehicle. They are located fore and aft of the rear spring seats on both sides of the chassis as shown in the illustration.
WORK PROCEDURE
If you determine a noise complaint is the result of the above problem, do the following:
1. Raise the vehicle on the Land Rover lift and remove the rear wheels.
2. Inspect each pad/bracket for rivet contact - no action is required if the rivet(s) are not contacting the floor.
3. If either rivet securing a pad is touching the floor, remove the rivet by drilling from the underside of the bracket.
CAUTION:
Wear eye protection while drilling!
4. Body to rubber pad contact will normally prevent pad movement even with a rivet removed. You may, however, apply weatherstrip adhesive to the edge of the pad/bracket for insurance.
5. Replace and retorque the rear wheels.
6. Confirm that the noise has been eliminated.
