Diagnostic Procedure Use the flow chart if you suspect a fuel sender related problem.
NOTES:
1. The arrow stamped on the top of the fuel pump must align with the arrow cast into the top of the fuel tank. If the pump/sender unit is misaligned even by as little as 2, the float can jam against tank baffles.
2. Make sure that the short plastic portion of the float arm is not jammed next to the lower stop. Place the pump/float unit on a level surface. The float should just touch the same surface without moving the float arm away from the lower stop. If not ok, carefully bend the arm to correct. See illustration. Bend at point "X".
3. Using a digital multi-meter between the green/black and black leads at the plug, measure the resistance at various points and compare with the chart. Any gaps or opens in the resistance curve will cause erratic fuel gauge readings.
