WIPER BLADE SHUDDER - 1990/1991 VEHICLES
1990/1991 Model Year Range Rovers use new style front wiper arms/blades as compared with previous models. These assemblies are held to tighter manufacturing tolerances than the previous types and can, if misaligned, shudder when moving in one direction or the other.
Complaints of shudder or poor wiping action should be addressed as follows:
- Press "Wash" switch and observe wiping action. The blades should clean effectively in both directions and not shudder. The windshield MUST be wet for this test.
- If shudder or poor wiping in one direction is noted, proceed as follows:
1. Observe the blade edge to windshield angle at rest - it should be 90 degrees to the glass.
2. Using a 6" - 8" adjustable wrench with taped jaws, grasp the flat part of the arm as close to the cowl end of the arm as possible.
3. Lift the arm/blade assembly away from the glass and GENTLY twist the arm in the direction needed to align the blade 90 degrees to the glass. Very little twist is required.
4. Remove the wrench and test wiper action - repeat as required until the blade cleans the glass as intended.
