Bulletin: P91-006Section: PRODUCT
Dated: 02/28/91
Applicable to: USA, CANADA
SUBJECT:
DASHBOARD CENTERING: 1989-1991 MODELS
PROBLEM: Squeaks/rattles caused by right end of dash rubbing door panel.
CAUSE: Dash not centered side-to-side in vehicle.
SOLUTION: 1. Remove 4 Pozidriv machine screws from under package tray rubber mat behind grab handle.
2. Loosen 3 - 6 mm nuts from evaporator support studs on firewall/sidewall brackets.
3. Loosen HVAC switch panel screws.
4. Remove self-tapping screws from ends of molded radio trim panel.
5. Drop down left lower dash panel - loosen 4 - 6 mm nuts on binnacle support bracket.
6. Remove 2 self-tapping screws which secure the left lower dash Panel and left end of heater box panel to the firewall.
7. Carefully lever the dashboard to the left using a padded bar until centered. Apply force between the right inner "A" post and dash end. Hold position with a padded wedge.
8. Push dash fully forward towards firewall.
9. Re-assemble/re-tighten hardware in reverse order of removal noting the following:
1. It may be necessary to un-hook and turn over the 4 caged nuts under the grab handle support plate to allow the screws to fit once the dash is centered.
2. Make sure HVAC switches/levers move smoothly in their slots before re-tightening panel.
3. Center instrument binnacle in dash recess before tightening.
