Primary Shaft Assembly

NOTE: Assemble in the order shown.

BEARING





1. Install the bearing with a press.

3RD GEAR, SYNCHRONIZER RING (3RD), AND 3RD/4TH CLUTCH HUB ASSEMBLY





NOTICE: When installing the synchronizer ring and the clutch hub assembly, align the synchronizer ring groove and synchronizer key.





NOTICE: Be sure the ridge faces the 3rd gear when installing the clutch hub assembly.





NOTICE: Apply transaxle oil to the bore of the 3rd gear.

1. Turn the primary shaft over and install the 3rd gear, synchronizer ring (3rd), and 3rd/4th clutch hub assembly with a press.

SYNCHRONIZER RING (4TH), 4TH GEAR, AND BEARING
1. Install the retaining ring.





2. Install the synchronizer ring (4th), 4th gear, and ball bearing with a press.





3. Measure the clearance between 3rd gear and 2nd gear.

Clearance: 0.002 - 0.008 inch (0.06 - 0.21 mm)
Maximum: 0.010 inch (0.26 mm)





4. Measure the clearance between 4th gear and the ball bearing.

Clearance: 0.006 - 0.015 inch (0.14 - 0.39 mm)
Maximum: 0.017 inch (0.44 mm)

5. If not as specified, reassemble the primary shaft assembly.
