Disassembly and Reassembly
DISASSEMBLY
Disassemble in the order shown in the figure, refer to DISASSEMBLY NOTE.

Steering Wheel Lock Assembly

1. Rigidly support the steering wheel lock portion of the column, and then use a chisel to make a groove (screwdriver slot) in the head of the two steering lock bolts.
NOTICE: Secure the column in a vise whose jaws are covered with soft brass or cloth.
2. Hold the steering column in a vise and use a screwdriver to remove the lock bolts.
3. Remove the steering lock assembly.
INSPECTION
1. Check for the following and replace the assembly if necessary:
Steering Shaft Assembly: Column bushing wear.
Intermediate Shaft: Excessive play in the universal joint, abnormal noise, or sticking.
Steering Lock Assembly: Verify that the cable connector cannot be moved when the key is in the LOCK position, but that it will move freely with the key in any other position.
ASSEMBLY
Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly, refer to ASSEMBLY NOTE.
ASSEMBLY NOTE:
Steering Lock Assembly
Install the steering lock assembly on the jacket. Install new steering lock mounting bolts, and tighten them until the heads break off.
