Sportage (KM) Passive Occupant Detection System Information (General Information - 021)
Description
This bulletin provides system information related to Sportage (KM) models regarding Passive Occupant Detection System (PODS) produced from 10/28/2004. Replacement parts for the 2005 and later Sportage (KM) POD System bladder, pressure sensor, electronic control unit (ECU), cushion and cushion frame are available ONLY as a complete cushion assembly. The bladder, pressure sensor and ECU are calibrated as an assembly and cannot be separated. The cushion cover is included in the assembly but can also be ordered separately.
The POD System ECU must be initialized / reset after the front passenger seat cushion assembly and/or seat cushion cover are replaced.
NOTICE:
^ Failure to perform the PODS reset can result in DTC B1489 to set in the airbag control module.
^ The PODS ECU must initialized/reset after passenger seat cushion/seat cover replacement.
Effective Vehicle Information
^ 2005 and later Sportage vehicles produced since 10-28-2004.
Service Procedure
1. Install the GDS unit to the vehicle.
^ Access the GDS VIN Screen
2. Perform the following:
^ Turn the ignition key on
^ Select "VIN Auto Detect"
^ Turn "Fault Code Searching" off
^ Select "Airbag"
^ Select "OK"
3. Perform the following.
^ Select "System Option"
4. Select "PODS Reset"
5. Follow On-screen instructions as a two step process will be performed.
6. Passenger seat must be empty to properly calibrate the PODS.
^ Select OK
7. Reset completed.
^ Select OK
8. Select "Pass Airbag Real-time Info".
9. Test the passenger seat PODS by monitoring status.
10. Check and clear any stored DTCs that may have set during testing and replacement.
