SOURCE: Kia Technician Times
TITLE: Front End Creaking Noise
APPLIES TO: 98 Sportage
SERVICE TIP:
CONDITION
Some 1998 vehicles have exhibited a creaking or popping sound emanating from the front passenger side of the vehicle during normal driving.
CAUSE
This condition is usually caused by the body contacting the radiator mounting bracket that is welded to the vehicle frame. As the body moves independently on the rubber isolation pads, the edge of the body sheet metal rubs against the radiator support causing a loud noise.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1. Remove the grille.
2. Disconnect the condenser fan connector.
3. Remove the condenser fan.
4. Locate the area of the noise.
5. Using a suitable pry bar, bend the edge of the body sheet metal away from the radiator mount.
6. Install the condenser fan and connect the electrical connector.
7. Install the grille.
