GROUP: Electrical

DATE: Mar. 29, 1996

SUBJECT:
Ignition Off Battery Drain

MODELS:
1996 (ZJ) Grand Cherokee
1996 (ZG) Grand Cherokee (export)

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Battery may be discharged if the vehicle is not driven for 5 to 6 days.

DIAGNOSIS/REPAIR:

This condition may be caused by a mis-communication between the Body Control Module and the Door Module which control the power windows and door locks. Normal ignition off draw is less than 25 milliamperes. This condition will prevent the Body Control Module from powering down which occurs approximately 30 seconds after the ignition switch is turned off. The Body Control Module draws approximately 180 milliamperes when it is in the normal operating mode.

If the condition is present, the vehicle will require installation of a revised Body Control Module. These can be obtained through your local Huntsville Authorized Repair Center. Refer to the Warranty Policies & Procedures manual for the locations of the repair centers. Be sure to state that the reason for the repair is "excessive ignition off draw caused by mis-communication between the Body Controller and the Door Module".

POLICY: Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.
