Excessive Shift Effort

MODELS:
1996 (ZJ) Grand Cherokee

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Transmission shifting requires excessive effort.

DIAGNOSIS:

Inspect the PRNDL scroll for any signs of damage or contact with other components under the console. If damage is present, perform the repair procedure.

PARTS REQUIRED:

1 55116071 PRNDL Bezel

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves replacing the PRNDL bezel with a redesigned assembly.

1. Remove the shifter handle by sharply pulling straight upward.
2. Remove the PRNDL bezel by prying it away from the console.
3. Install the new bezel, P/N 55116071, being careful to make sure that the scroll is properly positioned in the slots between the console and the console bracket under the bezel.
4. Install the Shifter handle.
