SUBJECT:
Automatic Temperature Control Erroneous Fault Codes

MODELS:

1996 (ZJ) Grand Cherokee

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC TEMPERATURE CONTROL AND BUILT BEFORE NOVEMBER 21, 1995 (MDH 11-01-XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The ATC control may display an "ER" (error) message to the customer. Diagnostics indicate a Code 40 - blower feedback fault is present. This fault may be present due to a ground feedback but will have no detrimental effects on ATC system operation.

DIAGNOSIS:

If customer complaints are received and are stated as described above, perform the repair procedure.

PARTS REQUIRED:

1 55036395 ATC Control

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves replacing the Automatic Temperature Control with a revised part.

1. Record the radio preset stations and disconnect the battery negative terminal.

2. Remove the switch bezel.

3. Remove the ATC control.

NOTE:
THE REPLACEMENT ATC CONTROL P/N 55036395 MUST BE BUILT AFTER 3/20/96. INSPECT THE NEW CONTROL FOR BOTH PART NUMBER AND SERIAL NUMBER. THE SERIAL NUMBER MUST BE GREATER THAN 0120472. IF THE SERIAL NUMBER IS NOT GREATER THAN 0120472, IT WILL NOT INCLUDE THE MODIFICATIONS NECESSARY TO CORRECT THE CONDITION. THE PART SHOULD BE RETURNED AND ANOTHER CONTROL ORDERED. ALL PARTS DEPOT STOCK SHOULD CONTAIN CONTROLS BUILT AFTER 3/20/96.

4. Install ATC Control P/N 55036395.

5. Install the switch bezel.

6. Connect the battery negative cable and set the radio stations.
