Disassembly
FRONT1. Clean outside of caliper with suitable solvent.
Fig. 9 Caliper Piston Protective Cloth:
2. Drain fluid from caliper and place clean shop cloths in caliper opposite piston.
3. Slowly apply compressed air to caliper inlet port until piston moves out of bore. Do not "blow" piston out of bore; damage and personal injury may result.
4. Remove and discard dust boot using a suitable screwdriver. Use care to avoid scratching caliper piston bore.
5. Remove and discard piston seal, using a suitable wooden or plastic tool.
6. Remove bleeder screw and protective cap, if equipped.
7. Remove and discard inner and outer bushings and plastic sleeves, if equipped.
8. Clean all components with clean brake fluid and compressed air.
REAR
Fig. 10 Rear Caliper Mounting Bolt Bushings & Boots:
1. Remove brake pads from caliper as outlined under Brake Pad/Service and Repair, then remove caliper mounting bolt boots and bushings.
2. Fill interior portion of caliper with a thick padding of shop rags to prevent piston damage during removal.
3. With compressed air nozzle directed into brake fluid inlet port, gently drive caliper piston out using short bursts of air at low pressure. Do not "blow" piston out of bore; damage and personal injury may result.
Fig. 11 Rear Caliper Piston Seal Removal:
4. Remove caliper piston dust boot using suitable pry tool, then remove and discard piston seal ring with pencil or other suitable non-metallic tool.
5. Clean caliper and piston with clean brake fluid or suitable brake parts cleaning solvent. Do not use other solvents or thinners, as residual chemicals may cause piston and seal damage.
