Console Lid Will Not Open Due to Cup Holder Interlock

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE OCTOBER 1, 1995 (MDH 10-01-XX).

MODELS:
1996 (ZJ) Grand Cherokee

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The console lid may not open due to the cup holder interlock mechanism activating while driving. The cup holder may start to open while driving, activating the interlock.

DIAGNOSIS:

Operate the cup holder in the console lid. If the detent which holds the cup holder closed feels weak and will not adequately hold the cup holder closed, perform the repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves installing a console lid with improved cup holder detents. Remove the console lid attaching screws and install the appropriate lid listed above.
