SUBJECT:
Warning Chime Sounds
Whenever Vehicle Moves
After Body Controller Module
Service With The DRB III
MODELS:
1996 (ZJ) Grand Cherokee
1996 (ZG) Grand Cherokee (International Market)
DISCUSSION:
Programming of the Body Controller Module (BCM) with the DRB III version 20.3 can incorrectly set some programmable functions like "Set Country Code," "Enable Immobilizer" or "Enable VTSS." This situation can enable an over speed warning chime and set the activation speed to 0 MPH. The over speed feature is required in some export markets to alert the driver of vehicle speed in excess of 80 MPH. With this condition, the chime will activate any time the vehicle is moving, forward or reverse.
This can occur any time the DRB III is used for diagnostics or to set programmable features. This can also occur with replacement controllers obtained from a Huntsville Repair Center.
To prevent the situation from occurring, make sure that your DRB III is operating using version 21.1 or later. This software was issued in November and you should already have performed the update to your DRB III.
If you have encountered this condition on a vehicle you have serviced, you will have to contact your local Huntsville Repair Center for an exchange unit. Be sure to notify them of the over speed chime condition. The replacement BCM must be p/n 56042409AD or later.
