Steering Wheel: Service and Repair

1. Remove horn button and ring.
2. Remove steering wheel retaining nut, then scribe alignment marks on steering shaft and wheel to aid installation.
3. Using suitable puller, remove steering wheel from shaft.
4. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque steering wheel retaining nut to 25 ft. lbs.
b. Pull air bag and speed control wires through lower, larger hole in steering wheel. Pull horn wire through smaller hole at top of steering wheel.
c. Install retaining nut and torque to 45 ft. lbs. Force steering wheel down on shaft with retaining nut only.
CAUTION:
Do not hammer or shock the column during installation of wheel.

d. Connect wire feeds to horn switch, air bag and speed control. Torque air bag module nuts to 90 inch lbs.
