Turn Signal Indicator: Testing and Inspection
Turn Signal Indicator LampsThe diagnosis found here addresses an inoperative lamp condition.
For any other turn signal problem, refer to Turn Signals or Hazard Warning Lamps for diagnosis.
If no turn signal or hazard warning system problem is found, the following procedure will help locate a short or open in the indicator lamp circuit.
1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
Remove the instrument cluster bezel and the cluster assembly. Service and Repair
Probe the ground circuit cavity of the cluster connector.
Check for continuity to a good ground. There should be continuity.
If OK, go to Step 2.
If not OK, repair the open circuit as required.
2. Connect the battery negative cable.
Install a jumper wire from the left turn signal circuit or the right turn signal circuit cavity of the cluster connector to a 12-volt battery feed. The lamp should light.
If OK, go to Step 3.
If not OK, replace the faulty bulb.
3. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
Check for continuity between the left turn signal circuit or the right turn signal circuit cavity of the cluster connector and the left turn signal circuit or the right turn signal circuit cavity of the bulkhead disconnect. There should be continuity.
If OK, test complete, if problem still exists, refer to Turn Signals or Hazard Warning Lamps for further diagnosis.
If not OK, repair the open circuit as required.
