Application

This model uses the NP-231 Command-Trac transfer case. The NP231 is a part-time, four wheel drive transfer case with a built in low range gear system. A front axle disconnect mechanism is used for two-wheel drive operation.

The NP231 has three operating ranges plus a Neutral position. A low range system provides a reduction ratio for increased low speed torque capability.

The three transfer case operating ranges are: Two-wheel drive high, four-wheel drive high and four-wheel drive low. Operating range is selected with a floor mounted shift lever.
