Vehicle Information Center Programming Changes
MODELS:
1995 (ZJ) Grand Cherokee
DISCUSSION:
Effective August 12, 1995 (MDH 08-12-XX), two changes have been implemented in the programming of the Vehicle Information Center (VIC).
The perform service display will now only be illuminated for a short period when the miles to service reaches zero. Past modules would stay illuminated continuously until the VIC was reset. The display will come on after each ignition on cycle, but will go out in 2 - 3 minutes until the unit is reset.
Some prior model vehicles were equipped with oil level sensors. These were eliminated from production in August 1993. Technical Service Bulletin 08-37-93 covered this change and explained that the module would still look at the oil level sensor when in the diagnostic mode and display a fault. The diagnostic mode in this revised module will no longer look for oil level sensor input and fault codes and will no longer be displayed.
