AW-4 4-Speed
1. Raise and support vehicle, then drain transmission fluid.2. Remove upper half of transmission fill tube and disconnect cooler lines at transmission by pressing fitting release tabs and pulling cooler line and fittings out of case.
3. Support engine with safety stand and transmission with jack.
4. Disconnect the transmission and transfer case shift linkage, then remove necessary exhaust components, speedometer cable/vehicle speed sensor wires, front and/or rear propeller shaft, transmission wire harnesses, transfer case vacuum and wire harnesses.
5. Remove rear crossmember, then disconnect transmission throttle cable at engine.
6. Disconnect necessary vacuum and fluid hoses, then remove starter motor, converter-to-driveplate bolts and converter housing-to-engine bolts.
7. Remove transfer case from transmission.
8. Disconnect and remove crankshaft position sensor. Crankshaft position sensor can be damaged if left in place while removing transmission.
9. Remove starter.
10. Secure transmission and transfer case assembly (if equipped), to transmission jack with safety chains, then remove transmission.
11. Reverse procedure to install. On 4WD models, install transfer case on transmission prior to installing transmission.
