Erratic/Inconsistent Intermittent Wiper Operation. Wipers continue to operate in slow mode when delay is selected. (This information supercedes the information contained in I.S. Note 11E266, April, 1987.)


DIAGNOSIS

Verify the condition on a wet windshield and continue with repair if condition exists.

NOTE: WIPER DELAY FUNCTION MAY OPERATE WITH A DRY WINDSHIELD AND DELAY FUNCTION MAY BE LOST WHEN THE WIPER BLADE FRICTION IS REDUCED ON A WET WINDSHIELD.


PARTS REQUIRED

1 - Windshield Wiper Motor PN 56002909
1 - Governor PN 56000428


REPAIR PROCEDURE

The repair involves installing a new wiper motor and inspecting the governor to assure it is compatible with the new design wiper motor.

1. Remove the wiper motor and install the new motor PN 56002909 as outlined in the service manual.

NOTE: 1986 VEHICLES USE A DIFFERENT WIPER MOTOR CONNECTOR THM LATER VEHICLES. TO INSTALL THE NEW DESIGN WIPER MOTOR ON A 1986 VEHICLE IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO REMOVE THE CONNECTOR FROM THE ORIGINAL WIPER MOTOR LEAVING APPROXIMATELY 2 INCHES OF WIRE AT THE CONNECTOR. REMOVE THE CONNECTOR FROM THE NEW WIPER MOTOR AND SOLDER THE ORIGINAL CONNECTOR ON THE NEW WIPER MOTOR. (WIRE COLOR CODES ARE THE SAME.)

2. The governor is located under the left side of the instrument panel. Inspect the governor. If the governor is Black in color, no further action is required. If the governor is Gray, replace it with P/N 56000428.
